Noticing moments

I find it a helpful practice to notice as much as possible.

Notice what is happening internally as you move through your hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades. But most of all, notice what is happening as you move through your moments.

Truly, what is life but a series of moments strung together?

New Year's Day is just another string of moments differentiated by calendar numbers. Same with turning 30. (Or 40, or 80.) We carry our pasts along with us. We try to travel light, but more often carry plenty of baggage from old hurts, regrets, losses. We constantly look to the future. What's for dinner? Where am I going this summer? When will I meet someone? What happens when I die?

In meditation, and ideally in waking/walking-around life, we notice how much clout we are giving the past and the future, and as soon as we notice that we are noticing anything BUT the present, instantaneously, like magic, we reappear in this moment, now starring in our own lives.
