Freedom starts with basic human rights. Food, shelter, love, education. Be the Revolution. Learn more.

When you are guided by compassion and loving-kindness, you are able to look deeply into the heart of reality and see the truth.
~Thich Nhat Hanh

Buddhism is an ancient philosophy realized by Siddhartha Gautama in ancient India. He gave up his worldly riches to meditate under a bodhi tree in India.

Its tenets are the Four Noble Truths:

  • Life is suffering.
  • Attachment is the cause of suffering.
  • There is a way to end suffering.
  • That way is the eightfold path.
The Eightfold Path involves:
  • WISDOM (right view & right intention)
  • ETHICS (right speech, right action & right livelihood)
  • MENTALITY (right effort, right mindfulness & right concentration)
Buddhist practitioners can be of any faith, or no faith. There are several branches of Buddhism including Zen and Tibetan. All Buddhists traditionally take refuge in the Buddha, his teachings (also known as the Dharma) and the community (the Sangha).

Buddha taught his students about the five kleshas, or impurities. Most people spend about 98% of their time lost in one or more of these constructs.

1) Craving (aka. Attachment) - bottomless hunger for more, more, more of the sweet stuff

2) Aversion (another form of attachment) - hatred, or at least annoyance

3) Lethargy - being too lazy, mentally inert

4) Restlessness - being too much of a busybody, always multi-tasking, never present

5) Doubt - in other words, forgetting that you are a Buddha in bloom. (Remember, "there's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be," according to the wise Beatles. It's easy.)

By starting to acknowledge, notice, label and release these kleshas, we invite nicer visitors into our consciousness: Love, Compassion, Peace, Equanimity... maybe even Courage.

Sitting still, embrace the emptiness of the moment.

Hone awareness.

Notice the mind, body and breath in this moment.

Slow down.

Accept everything.

Drop plans.

Surrender attachment to expectations.

Feel free.

This is your Buddha nature.
